Did you celebrate 'Earth Hour' last night?

Posted at: 2015-03-12
North Korea did.

Yes, we turned on all of the indoor and outdoor lights, fired up the charcoal grill and celebrated the civilized World that we enjoy by virtue of hard work and responsible handling of money.

BTW, the hamburgers were great!!

We had no idea there was such a thing, so no, but its nice for people who have no life otherwise I think and a nice awareness. Not much action, no teeth in this, but Asians must stop killing the sea creatures or we while shortly have none left, and that goes around the world to all the primitives who are murdering all the living creatures on earth. The rest of the world just says , ho hum, and on it goes. I hate it . Use your obvious spare time to do something creative like form a lobby in DC or a world organization to mandate stopping the abuse of our planet, not just writing on a computer, That is wasted and worthless.

No is my answer.

North Korea celebrates Earth Hour every day. This is the future the greenies want for every one. They just want to be in the position of the North Korean army that rules over everyone.

It's a symbolic gesture that probably ends up increasing CO2 emissions as power plants need to ramp up to meet the demand and the end of Earth Hour.

It also can inspire the thinking that Earth Hour is a rejection of modern life. As well, people may believe that it will have a small positive effect on climate change where as I stated in para 1, it likely has a small negative effect.

It also has the effect of some people thinking that turning off a few lights is going to solve our problems making it seems like an easy solution.

I realize all people don't think like this, especially those who are fairly informed on the relevant issues like pegminer above here. Overall, I believe Earth Hour is doing more harm than good.

This is common theme in environmentalism. Do something that sounds good without any regard for the actual effects.

Edit: "North Korea did."

Yes, and not just for Earth Hour but on every night: http://www.newscientist.com/blogs/shorts...

Sadly North Korea's tyrannical leader (just like you advocate) executes his people for the crime of supporting the wrong politicians or even the "wrong religion"

As for me I celebrate life and I try to conserve energy all year round. Then again, unlike some of the contributers here, I don't care to waste my money.

I only hard about it after the event when it said they'd turned the light off on big Ben for an hour

I had to look it up after seeing your question. I seems that this the 8th year for the event, but today is the first time I've heard of it.

Was it Earth Hour last night? I missed it. I usually celebrate by turning all my lights on and letting my car idle.

You can celebrate anything you want. Earth hour! lol What a joke.

Personally, I watched the Arizona-Wisconsin basketball game.

Never heard of "Earth hour", but I'm not much into political posturing of any sort.

Light on and watching TV

North Korea did.

nope. I watched star trek last night for that hour.

Thats a good idea turn out efficient electric lights, and burn smoky sooty CO2 producing candles

Was this a joke? If it was it was sort of funny in terrible way...

Good for them.

I would of like to but my Country doesn't celebrate it.

I see the lying denialist are out in force again

yeah i took a poop in the backyard
