Shouldn't the government install Anthony Watts in Jimmy Hansen's old position?

He certainly has more credibility.

If the criteria is installing someone with more integrity and credibility than Jim Hansen, then they could install almost anybody.

-----------------------

Yepp: He should apply for the position and bring along his qualifications, oh wait he doesn't have any.

What credibility are you referring to, he has a blog, and frankly showing that to real scientists would not get him a job as a janitor at a science group like NASA/GISS.

Although the scientists on the interview panel might get a good belly laugh from the nonsense watts posts.

I've seen Watts perform his act live (at the University of Tasmania) and he is was not even slightly convincing, the young scientists in the audience showed him for the fool he is.

Watts in the real world is a sad thing, on his own blogs where is ego is feed by people with similar delusions and where he can block anyone, who's points he can't actually answer, he may seem clever to the average denier, not really a group that even understands science hence all the ranting about leftists and communists.

As your (rather empty) update to Peg demonstrates so well

P.S. I once again offer the challenge, you talk of lies (from scientists yet where is the proof, show some thing real that supports this claim (not just denier blogs), you can't because there is no proof and you know it.

Deniers are simply making up story after story because they have no real answers to the science.

As for Hansen, I think the way denier have treated him show denier in their true light, they have repeated lied here and claimed he is not a climate scientist, yet he has quite clearly been involved in climate research since the early 1980's

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Hanse...

But then this is just one of many many lies deniers just can't seem to help themselves repeating.

As for applying for Hansen's position at GISS, it's been filled by Gavin Schmidt,

http://www.giss.nasa.gov/staff/gschmidt/

So I guess deniers will now have to start a new lie that Schmidt is also not a climate scientist, I guess that's no different to their pretending Watts actually is a Meteorologist.

As for Mike's assertion that watts could fix a website, again sorry to disappoint, but watts does not fix his own website, it's run, as are a group of denier blogs, by a tech, who answers to the name Mike, (any relation), that's the reason a good grouping of the lead denier websites all look the same.

mintie "he is a media personality" Watts, as far as I can find out, was a weather man from the 80's to 2000 on a regional station called WLFI-TV in Lafayette, Indiana, population less than 70,000.

So not even much of media personalty.

He has no formal qualifications ... which would probably discount him from the position in the first place. Hansen has a BA in Physics and Maths, MS in Astronomy and PhD in Physics. Considering the role was afor Space Institute you probably would like an astronomy or physics degree to be in the role.

Hansen has been involved in global temperature analysis since the early 1980s through NASA and official publications and research. Watts does this as a blogger.

Watts credibility is down to the fact that he is a media personality (was a weather man on TV before starting up his blog). Would you really give the TV weather man and a blogger a role at NASA? Survey says ... "No"

No, of course not. Watts may be a hero in the eyes of the uneducated who don't know enough to distinguish between ignorant, dull-witted opinions from the blogosphere, and facts supported by masses of evidence, but he's never impressed any real scientists with his 'work' and has no qualifications in anything AFAIK.

To be a scientist you have to be clever and work hard to pass your exams and get qualifications. Then you have to do actual science and achieve something. Then you get the respect of others in your field of study (and they're all out to show you're wrong).

Does Watts qualify - in any sense? Nope; he's paid to misinform the ignorant and it's working.

I have no idea who that person is. But I agree with global cooling. I'm qualified environmental scientist. Personally I think any who is qualified that actually believes in current global warming is either an idiot or lying for a pay check. Also pegminer has slammed you on another question.

Linlyons, one way of immediately recognizing something from Sagebrush is because he tries to puff up himself by using diminutive (and often insulting) nicknames for others, so the "Jimmy" is a tip-off that it is a Sagebrush question.

As for Hansen vs. Watts, the comparison is absurdly laughable. Watts's qualifications are, what, that he used to work as a weather announcer on radio? Like most deniers, he refuses to discuss his education, and the assumption is that he never made it through college, in any field.

Hansen has degrees in multiple fields, published scores of papers and received numerous awards, including the highest award that the American Meteorological Society gives out, the Rossby Medal.

But Sagebrush was the one that told us that the poles were colder than the equatorial regions because they were farther from the sun, so he has different standards for credibility.

Sage? James? Or Kano?

Ah yes, it's Sage.

Talking about credibility. FOTFLMAO.

Obviously some strange new definition of credibility that means pathological liar

He would have more credibility, and probably more technical skill to fix their web pages.

EDIT: Does the concept of administrator not mean anything to you? It doesn't matter fi someone else is the techie behind his web page. The fact is, he was the guy who helped McIntyre switch his webpage over to Wordpress. NASA's web pages are not working very well right now.

I have an even better idea. If you need brain surgery, which, judging from the intelligence of your question, sounds very possible, Anthony Watts should perform the procedure.

No degree in science, no track record in science, little evident ability to tell the truth about science.

It would be like appointing a 5 year old playing with toy soldiers to be Secretary of Defense.

He certainly has more credibility.

I suppose so - if your true goal is to make America the most stupid developed nation in human history.

Ha, Ha, a good one.
