Is Global Warming responsible for the DECREASED snowfall in the Great Lakes region?

Yes absolutely. And to scientifically prove it, that is the largest cheeseburger eating area of the world. And everyone knows eating cheeseburgers causes Global Warming.

Global warming is a recently evolved, insidious anthropogenic disaster. It is the documented historical warming of Earth's near-surface temperature. Global warming came into existence in mid 20th century and has been progressing at an unprecedented rate ever since. Global warming is sometimes used synonymously with the term "climate change". However a basic difference exists between the two. Climate change is identified state of change of climate which persists for a decade or longer, whereas Global warming is the combined effect of man made green house gases and change in solar irradiance. Global warming has emerged as a humongous problem facing the fast and ever growing world.

Speech about Causes of Global Warming and Mechanism

As mentioned earlier, it is a combined effect. Over the years of development of new and improved products for living, their has been a neglected, unwanted rise in gases that are causing gradual destruction of the protective blanket around our globe i.e. the Ozone layer. Global warming is an uncalled for event following employment of harmful greenhouse gases such as Carbon Dioxide (CO2), Nitrous Oxide (N2O), , Methane (CH4), and aerosols such as Chlorofluorocarbons (CFC), Hydrocarbons (CHC), etc.

These gases form O. free radicals which combine with Ozone and convert it to O2 and other non-protective gases. Thus solar energy which was impermeable to the Earth's atmosphere due to the unyielding Ozone layer is clear of all the obstacles.

Speech about Effects and Control of Global Warming

According to the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), the decade of the 2000s (2000–2009) is the warmest on record. The global mean surface temperature for 2009 is currently estimated at 0.44°C/0.79°F above the 1961-1990 annual average of 14.00°C/57.20°F. Global warming is a potential health hazard.

Incredible Ian, you've found a number of papers which contradict each other on a certain issue. You're oh-so-clever!

/sarcasm

Earth to Ian: you'll find that in ANY scientific field. Science is never ever based on single papers but always, wait for it OMike, ALWAYS on the consensus which arises from the comprehensive scientific research on that particular issue and those (directly or indirectly) related.

If at any time one needs to know the current scientific understanding of a specific issue, the whole scientific literature is consulted from which ultimately a consensus on a particular issue arises. That happens throughout the scientific world and with it a heart surgeon for example is able to treat his patients in the best way possible. He doesn't, unlike you and the other unscientific nitwits you read, cherry-pick 2 opposing studies and conclude there really is nothing to be done for his patients.

It's the CONSENSUS which arises from the entire scientific literature on the subject which is at the base of his medical decisions and the same is true for every other scientific field.

(Should you need to know what 'consensus' actually means, grab a dictionary or go back to school).

To OMike:

How nice of you to finally stop pretending you're interested in the Science and practice the 'science by quotes' so popular amongst your fellow hard-core science deniers. For once you're being honest.

In his dual (dueling?) questions, Ian is attempting to show a contradiction between papers (and there are actually papers that contradict each other all the time), but from reading the abstracts it does not appear that these papers are addressing the same thing, so if he's going to claim there's a contradiction he'll have to do more digging.

Anyway, for an example of how global warming could lead to both more AND less snow at essentially the same location, without a contradiction, see my answer to his other question:

I live there. Not sure what you are talking about. Assuming you mean the great lakes region in USA and Canada.

Lake levels are dropping but that has been proven to be from techtonic uplift (fallout from the last ice age) and dredging of channels by the Army Corps of Engineers. Dredging the channels is allowing water to flow out faster.

As lake levels drop surface area is being reduced. When this goes far enough, lake effect snow could be impacted.

Similar:

Dr David Viner - within a few years winter snowfall will become "a very rare and exciting event".

Dr. Michael Oppenheimer - I bought a sled in '96 for my daughter. It's been sitting in the stairwell, and hasn't been used. I used to go sledding all the time. It's one of my most vivid and pleasant memories as a kid, hauling the sled out to Cunningham Park in Queens.

no ****** EVER paper about global warming contradicts another, your cult religion is insanity times 100

I believe it is.
