Will there ever be a heat-wave in the United Kingdom this year?(2013)?

The weather has been shocking so far and it's July, literally almost August(summer) does anyone know of any decent weather coming towards us, or?

It’s unlikely but not impossible that there will be a heatwave in the UK this year. There will almost certainly be specific days and locations when the threshold for a heatwave is reached but it’s unlikely to be on the sort of scale of the 2003 or 2006 heatwaves.

In recent weeks there has been some unusual weather in the UK with northern England regularly recording the highest temperatures and sunniest conditions, this is what’s happening as I write this (Cumbria being the warmest part of the UK with the best of the Sun in Yorkshire, Cumbria and Northumberland – a good day for a trip to the Lake District).

In northern England temps have been a few degrees C above average for several weeks whilst in the south of England they’ve struggled. Things are better at the moment and London is currently pretty much exactly where it should be at this time of year.

The good news is that the warm weather is building and the next couple of days should see a marked improvement for many in the UK. Highest temperatures are likely in central England and inland areas of northern England (roughly from Oxford to Manchester) where 26°C to 28°C is possible, this compares to averages of about 19°C at this time of year. London could reach 24°C to 25°C (average 20°C). In Scotland, NI and Wales the temps will be a bit above average.

This won’t last long, by the weekend temps are likely to drop back to seasonal averages and thereafter it looks like pretty changeable weather, fairly typical for the UK.

At the moment there’s nothing to suggest that there will be a heatwave. However, weather conditions, and especially those over the UK, are notoriously changeable so a heatwave, although unlikely, isn’t impossible.

United Kingdom?

Or England?

British Isles?

Great Britain?

Which?

Answer is yes, tomorrow and the next day.

I am completely confused now, what is the date today, June 18, July 18 or August 18

Our best chance of a heat wave is if the Met Office says it will be cold!

Thanks for the answer guys! And sorry, got the wrong date! It is June!

Maybe....
