Why is it cold in Buffalo but not everywhere else?

It is not that cold in Buffalo. The cause of the snow was lake effect snow off Lake Erie. Wind blew from west to east over lake Erie. The lake is not frozen over yet. So water evaporated and came down as snow. Buffalo is just east of Lake Erie.

Buffalo gets a lot of lake effect snow. However this year it was worse.

Some warm air moved to Alaska, as the cold Alaskan air came South. That is just air moving around.

The lower 48 have only 1.6% of the area of the Globe, so warmth elsewhere dominates the global average temperatures.

What you are talking about is a local regional short term period in an inland region just heading into Winter, The problem is deniers tend to lie about these things at the drop of a hat, take Zippi62 empty comment as an example.

O.K. the claim is no U.S. record warm is a couple of years, we are now near the end of 2014

2012 (for just the U.S.) came out like this

http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/sotc/service/na...

2013 was a little cooler

http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/sotc/service/na...

2014 (on the data so far)

http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/sotc/service/na...

It would seem to have several states with record warming (so much for zippos comment)

As for the global situation, which is why it's called Global warming and not mid west U.S. warming.

http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/sotc/global/201...

The global averaged data for Jan-Oct is 0.68°C which (on the year to date data) is the warmest year in the modern record.

Which is, of course, why deniers keep trying to zoom in on regional U.S. data like the mid-west because any rational look at global data shows the utter nonsense deniers are trying to spin.

Even with the U.S. data denier only seem to want to talk about particular regions as they try to ignore parts of the U.S. especially in their local Summer, which is why the references to Buffalo while they try to ignore the West coast or more importantly Alaska

Climate is the average temperature. Global warming became climate change when the temperatures became colder than average. Phony numbers do not change the fact that it has been getting colder the last few years because of diminished solar activity.

It is cold everywhere else in the area affected by the "arctic blast"....... that's covered a good part of the country way down into the Southern states.

What happens with global warming is that just a very little bit of excess energy from the sun is trapped in the atmosphere. Doesn't take much - just a degree is a LOT of temperature rise. If you figure this one degree rise over the entire N. American continent, then you have a LOT of energy - and it does crazy stuff with weather.

but cheer up - the "conservative" morons are still denying global warming.... they tell you its a MYTH concocted by "them smart scientist guys". Maybe the "conservative" morons are right - and we can just go on polluting the atmosphere non-stop.

God dislikes Buffalo because of their football team and those nasty Buffalo wings sold all over the place.

The U.S. hasn't had a RECORD WARM TEMPERATURE in any State for several years and most of the individual States had their RECORD WARMEST TEMPERATURE in the 30s. The recent "RECORD GLOBAL WARMING" over the past several years hasn't affected the U.S., which makes the claim of "GLOBAL WARMING" highly suspect. The United Nations seems to be in charge of propagating the issue on a GLOBAL scale. The UN has always been a highly political organization and looks to GOVERN the World's populace. That is highly prevalent with their Agenda 21 Depopulation initiative.

It's hard to trust HIGHLY POLITICAL ORGANIZATIONS on GLOBAL ISSUES. The UN has been in charge of propagating the GLOBAL WARMING ISSUE since 1988. Be careful of what you believe and read within the news cycles. Chances are there is a political and/or monetary motive involved.

it is -58 in russia..

the cold air was pushed out of alaska by a jet stream

how warming over the pacific lead to.this..

The lake.

Why is it that there is so much cold and snow in Buffalo and the Great Lakes, but October 2014 was the hottest month on record globally? I understand that it's climate change, but can somebody please elaborate?
